Australia, Bangladesh push to expand trade ahead of TIFA talks

Dhaka: Australia and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and business ties ahead of the fifth Joint Working Group meeting under the Australia-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement (TIFA).

According to the Australian High Commission in Dhaka, Australian Chargé d'affaires Clinton Pobke met Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan to discuss ways to boost bilateral trade and further deepen the two countries' growing economic partnership.

The meeting focused on advancing preparations for the upcoming TIFA Joint Working Group meeting, which serves as a key platform for addressing trade and investment issues and expanding commercial cooperation between the two countries.

The Australian High Commission said bilateral trade has reached AUD 5.5 billion and has grown at an average annual rate of 17.8% over the past five years.

Australia reiterated its commitment to supporting Bangladesh's economic transformation by expanding trade, investment, and business partnerships, the mission said in a social media post.
