Spain tourism sector to exceed EUR 269b

Madrid
: Spain's travel and tourism industry is projected to contribute more than EUR
269 billion to the national economy in 2026, growing 4.1 percent year over
year, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
The
forecast, highlighted during the VI Turespaña Convention, has been revised
upward from an earlier estimate of 3.7 percent. The projected expansion exceeds
expected growth in Spain's overall economy, at 2.7 percent, as well as tourism
growth across Europe and globally.
International
business travel is also expected to strengthen, with spending by international
business visitors forecast to increase 8.1 percent this year.
WTTC
President and CEO Gloria Guevara said cooperation between governments and
private businesses has helped Spain strengthen its position as a leading
tourism destination while supporting investment and sustainable growth.
The
outlook follows a record 2025, when travel and tourism contributed EUR 259
billion, equivalent to 15.3 percent of Spain's gross domestic product, and
supported 3.2 million jobs. The country welcomed 96.8 million international
visitors, while international tourist spending reached EUR 115.8 billion.
To
sustain growth, WTTC has identified priorities including sustainability,
improved destination management, digitalization, artificial intelligence
adoption and workforce development. It also emphasized reducing seasonal
pressure, diversifying destinations and supporting small and medium-sized
tourism businesses.
