Bangladesh showcases higher-value apparel in Hong Kong

Held on October 28 at
Island Shangri-La, the event was organized by HSBC Bangladesh and the
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), in
collaboration with the Bangladesh Consulate General in Hong Kong. More than 130
buyers, sourcing professionals, manufacturers and industry representatives
attended.
BGMEA President Mahmud
Hasan Khan said Bangladesh aimed to generate USD 100 billion in apparel exports
within a decade, including at least USD 20 billion through value addition. He
identified energy costs and logistics as continuing challenges for the
industry.
Shah Mohammad Tanvir
Monsur, Bangladesh's consul general in Hong Kong, said garment exports reached
USD 38.70 billion in FY2025-26, while the share of value retained locally
increased to 62.15 percent.
Industry speakers also
highlighted growing diversification into non-cotton products, denim, outerwear
and activewear, alongside the expansion of green manufacturing. Buyers called
for stronger product differentiation and reduced dependence on imported
fabrics.
The event featured a
keynote address, two panel discussions and an apparel showcase, reinforcing
Bangladesh's ambition to compete through product value and manufacturing
capabilities.
